Why Some Strategies Just Won't Work
I can't stop thinking about how many different strategies are actually out there on how to run your business. And believe me, I know because I have tried WAY too many of them. It got to the point where I felt more confused by following someone else's strategy, instead of trusting my intuition, which lead me to believe that I wasn't cut out for this. While I'm grateful for the journey that I have had, I wanted to share some advice with you so you don't make some of the mistakes I did.
When you're a new entrepreneur, you are definitely diving into an ocean without a life jacket. It's scary. I'm not going to sugar coat it for you. I was terrified because I didn't know what to expect and my mindset sucked. I was looking for a quick fix (which really doesn't exist) and I wanted to leave my job as soon as possible.
My first task once I set up my social media accounts was to find people to follow. I immediately started looking for other industry leaders and experts to rely on for information on how to start my business and run it effectively, but it definitely got confusing because they were all saying different things.
I want you to know that there are so many experts out there who will try to sell you on their own “tried and true” strategy that worked for them but let's be real... it may never work for you. What you don't realize at first is that it worked for them because it was aligned with their values, their needs, and their overall vision for their business - not yours.
Let’s break this down for a second. How many times have you tried to use a someone else's strategy to find a solution to a problem or even a colleague's specific workflow on how to complete a project, yet you decided that you couldn’t do it their way? This is the exactly the same thing.
The lesson here is that there are so many different ways to run your business and you just need to figure out what way works for you. Of course there's the technical aspect where you'll need to use your social media accounts, have a mailing list, and own a website (like everyone else), but the rest is up to you to figure out. It's your business. Decide how to run it yourself.
What helped me figure this out was getting rid of all of the noise and deciding on what truly works for me. I spent time planning, meditating, journaling, daydreaming, and pulling oracle cards (I can pull some for you if you're in need of a reading) to figure out what I need to do for myself and my business.
My advice to you is to go within and understand what it is that you need and want before investing in any coaching package, program, or resource. Without a plan in mind, you may be wasting a lot of time and money (like I did) when you can start your journey with clarity instead of confusion.
Now, it's time for you to design your own version of success by creating a strategy that works for you... not anyone else. There's no quick fix, no blueprint, or get rich quick strategy. It's all work. It's up to you to do it for yourself.
