It's no secret that mental health is extremely important. When it comes to you and your health, you need to not only focus on physical health but also make certain that you're taking care of yourself mentally as well. When your mind is stressed and anxious it can also cause similar reactions to happen throughout the other parts of your body. 

Wondering if it's possible that your mental health is connected to your physical health? The following information may just give you the information that you've been seeking!

The mind is a powerful thing. But... can your mental health cause you to feel less than stellar in your physical health? Here are some possible reasons why they could be linked!

When your mind is tired, your body seems to lag as well.

How many times have you not had a great sleep at night and you felt as though you were walking through cement the whole next day? When your brain is tired, you're tired. Getting those zzz's each and every night is important for your body to rejuvenate and energize as well.

When your feeling cranky, your body feels tense.

Holding negative thoughts in your brain can cause you to hold stress and tension in your body. You know that feeling...your shoulders tense up, your back starts to heart and there's a possibility that you'll even start to notice that your clenching your jaws from all the stress. Mental stress can cause a great amount of physical health stress as well!

When your attitude is poor, your body feels the effects.

Negativity is a feeling that can literally start to take over your entire body. Not only does your mind feel drained when negativity hits, but your body will also start to show the effects as well. People who are negative are more tired, can actually become depressed and feel as though they are lacking in energy. 

Now that you see some of the negatives of how your mental health can possibly affect your physical health, let's dive in on a few of the ways that there can be positive outcomes as well! 

When your mind thinks positively, your energy increases.

Think about this for a moment. When you're excited about something, your brain sends that excitement out to all parts of your body. This means that there's a chance that you'll feel energized, happy and excited from your positive thoughts. 

Your mental health can make or break your future plans.

You can read this section as a negative, or as a positive...the outlook is however you want it to be. In my opinion, mental health can have an effect on your physical health relatively easily. If you are looking at the future and dreading aspects of it, your body is going to act accordingly.

Think of all the people who are getting ready to kick off new diets or healthy eating options in the New Year. If they aren't fully on board mentally, they'll more than likely fizzle out on their plans after a few short weeks or months. Those who decide to approach their change in habits with a positive outlook will have a much better chance of staying on track and accomplishing their goals. If that's not a combination of mental and physical aspects, I don't know what is!

Keep yourself mentally and physically strong by understanding how one feeds the other. Positive thoughts will help you mentally stay happy and physically stay healthy while negative thoughts will have the reverse effect.
