7 Tips To Organize Your Life This Fall

7 Tips To Organize Your Life This Fall

Can you believe that it’s already the middle of October? It feels like just yesterday we were celebrating Labor Day! Whether you’re trying to hold on to the last remnants of summer, or you’ve been counting down the days until fall on your calendar, fall is one of the best times to begin organizing again. After the long lazy days of summer, it’s time to get back into organizing mode with these seven tips to organize your life this fall.

Your Wardrobe

Schedule time one weekend to go through everyone’s summer clothes, and prepare their wardrobe for fall. Before you put those summer clothes in boxes for storage, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Does this still fit me?
  • Does it still look good?
  • Is this item on its last leg? (does it have stains, holes, or is the color fading?)
  • Did I wear this item, and will I wear it again?

As you bring your fall clothes out of storage, ask yourself the same questions before you even put them on a hanger.

Reset your Goals

Fall marks the turning point in the year. Now is the perfect time to revisit your goals for the year and see if you’re still on track. A lot can happen in half a year, and perhaps your goals have even changed a little. Set aside some time at the beginning of the season to create new goals, or create a plan to help you reach your current ones.

Garages and Attics

Fall is the best time to organize your garage and attic! During the summer months, these spaces tend to heat up fast. However, it can start to get cold during the late fall months. Be sure to start early before the weather gets too cold. Take this time to declutter these spaces and get rid of broken tools, things you’ll never use, and anything else you have lurking in these areas. After you’ve finished decluttering these areas, take some time to reorganize everything.

Fill your Stockpile

You don’t need to be a couponer to have a stockpile! As the weather starts to turn cold, there’s more chance you’ll be spending your days indoors. Having food readily on hand can be great for snow storms and other harsh weather, but it will also keep you from having to brave the cold to grab groceries. Now is a great time to stock up on food for your home to help you prepare for emergencies, and keep your pantry full.

Pantry

Now is a great time to start going through your pantry. Whenever you have a change in seasons, you should declutter your pantry. Fall brings warm soups and hearty comfort foods like pasta. This means your entire pantry may be due for a makeover! Start by taking everything out of your pantry and throw out anything that’s expired. Once you’ve got your items down to what you will use, organize them into categories and write down anything you still need.

Paper Clutter

If you have a paper clutter problem, you are not alone. When it comes to clutter this is the area where most people struggle. As tax season sneaks up on us, now is a great time to start going through your papers and getting them organized! If you need a short-term fix, purchase some file folders and grab a bin. Create categories for your documents and put them into the folder. As the year goes on, slowly tackle each folder until you have them organized.

Clean the Car

Before the weather gets too cold and the holidays hit, you’ll want to take some time to clean out your car. When it comes to your car, the best place to start is with a clean surface. Take everything loose out of your car, and one by one put them back in. If you don’t have one in your car already, put a warm blanket in your car. If your car breaks down while it’s cold, you want to make sure you have a way to stay warm.

Summer may be over, but there are plenty of ways you can kick your organizing up a notch! These seven tips will not only prepare you for fall but keep you organized all season long!
